Twin Pike Family YMCA

Letter from the Executive Director & Board President

Dear YMCA Members, Donors, Volunteers, Staff and Supporters:

Twin Pike Family YMCA has been serving the communities in and around Pike County, Missouri and Pike County, Illinois since 1994. None of the programs or services provided by the Y would be possible without the support of the communities we serve. The investment of time and energy made by our volunteers and staff, and the financial support and resources given by our donors and partners have made it all possible. Together we have built what we believe is the best Y facility in any rural community in the country.

In 2017, wonderful things happened at the Y:

  • More than 68,630 visitors (Y members, program participants, spectators and community members) walked through the doors of the Y facility.
  • Our Y continues to be the largest provider of childcare services in northeast Missouri. The community collaboration between the YMCA and four area school districts in Pike County, Missouri was awarded two new 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants in 2017. The grants will fund before, after and summer out-of-school educational enrichment programs at five sites throughout the county and will provide over $3.5 million in funding, during the five-year grant period. This money will be invested in the kids and communities the 21st CCLC programs serve.
  • Last year, YMCA of the USA awarded a second Achievement Gap grant to the Y’s Afterschool Program at the Louisiana Elementary school. This grant allowed for the continued implementation of the national Achievement Gap learning-loss prevention curriculum, making the Louisiana program one of only 72 sites in the country to offer this program curriculum, the only site in Missouri. This grant funds tutoring and educational enrichment opportunities for at-risk kids, helping to address the academic hurdles faced by kids living in high-poverty areas.
  • Our Y continues to be the largest provider of childcare services in northeast Missouri. We provide educational programs during out-of-school hours at five elementary schools, by partnering with the four area school districts in Pike County, Missouri. These programs are subsidized by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program, and all sites are currently at maximum capacity.
  • Last year, YMCA of the USA awarded an Achievement Gap grant to the Louisiana Afterschool Program site, making it one of only 72 sites in the country to offer this program curriculum. This grant funds tutoring and educational enrichment opportunities for at-risk kids, helping to address the academic hurdles faced by kids living in high-poverty areas.
  • The Y continues to provide meals and snacks to area children during out-of-school time. In 2017, the Y served 2,921 meals and over 45,700 snacks to area kids as part of the 21st CCLC programs, as well as offering free meals at the Y facility during the summer months.
  • The Y implemented a new software system, Daxko Operations, to better serve our members and more effectively collect data. This system created the ability for our Y to begin taking online membership and program registrations, gave us the ability to take credit/debit cards, and created on-line giving opportunities for our donors.
  • Our Y was the recipient of a fourth YUSA Swim Access grant. Last year 255 kids learned how to swim at the Y. Twenty-nine percent of these kids did so at no cost through the YUSA grant. In total, this grant has allowed us to provide free swim lessons to 325 kids over the past four years.
  • Our Y received two mentoring grants in 2017; one to continue providing one-on-one mentoring services and a second to start small group mentoring services for area youth as part of the 21st CCLC out-of-school programs. The Reach & Rise Group Mentoring grant was one of only twenty-five given out nationwide.

As we move forward and continue developing opportunities to serve our communities, we encourage you to join us. Help make a difference in the world we live in - volunteer at the Y, sponsor a child in the afterschool program, become a mentor, coach a youth basketball team, or donate to the Y. We cannot do it without the help of the communities we serve. Your support makes all the difference!
